Israel Entry Requirements for Australians

Apply Now

Australian travelers now need an Electronic Travel Authorization, known as the ETA-IL, to visit Israel. It’s a new requirement for all visitors with an Australian passport as of January 2025.

Find out how to get your ETA for Israel, what information you need to apply, and the other rules for entry in this post.

Do Australian Citizens Need a Visa for Israel?

All visitors to Israel need a visa or an Electronic Travel Authorization. You only need to apply for a visa if you’re:

  • Planning to stay for longer than 90 days
  • Traveling to study, work, or live in Israel

If your visit will be less than 90 days, and your reason for travel is tourism or business, you can get an online ETA instead of a visa. It grants you pre-approval to visit, but you must make sure you follow other entry and customs rules.

Israeli ETA Requirements for Australian Citizens

The ETA-IL for Australians has a straightforward application process that’s 100% online. To apply, you’ll need to provide:

  • Personal information — Gender, nationality, date of birth and contact details
  • Passport data — Issue and expiry dates, and emergency contact information
  • Other details — Profession, trip finances, health status, and any criminal history

The passport you apply with is electronically linked to your ETA-IL. When scanned on arrival, your approved ETA will be displayed. You must use the same passport when you apply and when you travel.

What documents do Australians need to travel to Israel?

Even with an approved ETA, border officials make the final decision about granting you entry to the country. Make sure you meet all the requirements for a smooth arrival process.

The required documents for traveling to Israel are as follows:

  • Valid Australian passport: Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your trip. If your passport will expire soon, renew it via a Post outlet before you apply for the ETA.
  • Approved ETA: Your ETA status is visible when scanning your passport, but you’re recommended to print and carry a copy of your confirmation for your records.
  • Israeli Entry Card: The Entry Card for Israel is issued on arrival. Make sure to keep it with your passport throughout your stay.
  • Trip itinerary and details: Be ready to show evidence of financial means to cover your trip, accommodation information, and your onward travel booking.

How long can Australians stay in Israel?

Your Israel ETA for Australians allows you to stay for up to 90 days at a time. If you’re visiting for a cultural or sports event, the permitted length of stay is 30 days.

In some cases, it’s possible to request an extension of your stay beyond 90 days with an ETA. Applications are reviewed individually, and should be made at an Israel Population and Immigration Authority (PIBA) office before your permitted stay expires.
