Israel Entry Requirements for French Nationals

Apply Now

Starting from 2025, there’ll be a new requirement for French passengers in terms of documents for traveling to Israel.

France is one of the nations whose citizens will need to get the new Israel Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA-IL).

Fortunately, you’ll be able to get the ETA-IL for citizens of France online — in fact, you’ll be able to apply here on this site.

You can find detailed information on the ETA-IL and how to apply below.

Do French Citizens Need a Visa?

No, if you hold a valid French passport, you do not need a visa to visit Israel.

You can stay up to 90 days visa-free as a tourist, a business traveler, or for various other purposes.

From 2025, you’ll need to register for an ETA-IL to visit visa-free. You can do this online through this website.

French nationals only need a visa for Israel in the following cases:

  • Staying for longer than 90 days
  • Traveling for purposes not covered by the ETA-IL, e.g. employment

Israeli ETA Requirements for French Citizens

It’s easy to meet the ETA-IL requirements for citizens of France — all you need is a passport that meets these criteria:

  • Issued by France or another visa-exempt country
  • Valid for 6 months from the date of arrival in Israel
  • In good condition (not torn, damaged, illegible, or missing pages)

Documents needed to travel to Israel from France

To board a flight to Israel and clear immigration control on arrival, you need 2 important items:

  • Valid French passport
  • Valid ETA-IL registered to that same passport

You may also be asked about your travel itinerary during your stay in the country and your plans to leave.

What Can French Visitors Do With the Israel ETA?

The Israel ETA for French citizens is valid for multiple entries over 2 years. This means that you can visit as many times as you like for 2 full years from the date the ETA-IL is issued.

As a citizen of France, you can use your ETA-IL for:

  • Tourism
  • Visiting family or friends in Israel
  • Business trips
  • Short-term study
  • Visits for culture
  • Visits for sport
  • Journalism
  • Visits as a foreign expert
  • Traveling as part of a Taglit Birthright Israel or Masa Israel trip

The maximum stay with the ETA-IL for French citizens is:

  • 30 days for culture or sport
  • 90 days for any other purpose

Israel Travel Tips

Here’s some useful advice for French nationals visiting Israel.

  1. Take out health insurance — healthcare is notoriously expensive in Israel.
  2. Be sensitive to religion and culture — Israel is predominantly Jewish, with minorities of other religions.
  3. Avoid talking politics — with the ongoing situation with Palestine and friction with other neighboring countries, there are lots of strong feelings among locals.
  4. Bring cash — credit and debit cards are widely used, but it’s always good to have some New Israeli Shekels (NIS) on your person just in case.

Embassies

It’s useful to know where the French diplomatic offices are in Israel, in case you find yourself in need of assistance. For example, if you lose your passport, this is the place to contact.

Conversely, if you need to apply for an Israel visa for French passport holders — to live and work in the country, for example — you’ll need to visit an Israeli embassy.
